Welsh Festivals and Traditions
Every year, the young people of Wales hold an annual youth festival. It is the largest festival of this type in Europe and is held in North and South Wales alternately and lasts a whole week.
Youngsters between the ages of 5 and 25 compete against each other in a number of different competitions. They include singing, reciting poetry, dancing - disco and traditional Welsh dances, plays, instrumental and our very own cerdd - dant where a harp plays one tune and we sing another at the same time (very confusing but very beautiful).
There is also an arts and craft competition and a sports competition too. People from all over Wales come to watch the competitions, they stay there (in caravans, tents and hotels). There are many different stalls selling Welsh souvenirs and a fun fair with big rides. In July of every year we host the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen. People from all over the world come in traditional costumes and it is very colourful.
