CHRISTMAS FOOD

Traditional meals in Slovakia are very different. It depends on the family and the region where they live. During the day some people starvate, because dinner is a very big meal with many courses. Under the table-cloth some people keep some money. Especially in the east of Slovakia the traditional food are waffers with honey and risen paste with poppy. Then follows sauerkraut soup with mushrooms, sausages, lentils or peas. In some areas people add cream into this soup. The next course is potatoe salad with roast carp or other fish. On the table there is fruit, cakes crips, mineral water or juice and some alcohol. We usually have dinner at 6 o´clock. After dinner we give presents.



Chocolate decorations

Into the melt margarine add sugar, cocoa and stir well. Then add almonds and nuts cut into small pieces. At first we immers the forms into water and then fill with the mass. Leave them to cool. After removing from forms pack them into tinsel.


Gingerbread

3 eggs, 225 g castor sugar, 3 spoons of honey, 450 g flour, 1 teaspoon soda,1 teasp. grind cinnemon, 90 melt butter, yolk mixed with milk

At first mix eggs with castor sugar well, add warm honey and mix well. Then mix flour, soda and cinnemon with stir melt butter. Leave the dough in fridge for 24 hours. Next day we knead and cut different shapes. Soil them with yolk and bake. You can decorate the cakes with egg white, when you put beet fragrance you can have red decoration.
