To find out about the Edinburgh International Festival we wrote a letter to their main office. Here is a copy of the letter we sent with some of the questions we asked
Dear Sir/Madam,We are writing on behalf of P.7a of St. Patrick's Primary,Kilsyth,Glasgow. We are studying Scottish Festivals and Traditions and are collecting information which we make into web pages to add to our internet project. We are working with schools from Spain,France,Germany and other European countries who all have published various Festivals and Traditions from other countries. Would it be possible for you to provide us with information regarding the Edinburgh Festival?
Firstly,what exactly is the Edinburgh Festival? When and why was it created? Whose idea was it and what did he/she aim to achieve? What actually takes place during the Festival and in how many locations or venues? Can you estimate the number of people who will attend and what nationalities are likely to be there?
During the years that it has been running have any new famous characters taken part and if so who are they? How long does the Festival last for and how much money is it expected to make for the city of Edinburgh? Does the Festival and the Fringe attract enough media attention to encourage tourists and visitors to the future Festivals?
Finally,I always thought the 'Fringe' was something to do with my hair! Could you please tell me what this has to do with the Edinburgh Festival?
