The plant, called " bannatana " by the Caribs, was used either to cover the cabins (using its large sheets) or for food and drinks (with fruit). The banana trees are cultivated in all the tropical areas and there are various varieties in the West Indies. The banana tree is a robust herbaceous with a squat trunk. Flowers are gathered along an axis and fruits by " hands " constituting a bunch. Each plant provides a single mode in nine months.
