Christmas food

We have different food for Christmas. Some of us have ham, while others have duck, ptarmigan, reindeer or something else.

Almost everybody has smoked lamb at Christmas time. We eat it with green beans, potatoes, yellow turnips and white sauce.

Before Christmas we bake some sorts of cookies, e.g. ginger cookies. Many people bake fried bread, which we call "laufabraud"(leafbread) That is a very thin, and rather big cake and we cut a beautiful pattern on it. Sometimes the whole family comes together and does the pattern and fry the cakes. We eat these cakes with our smoked lamb.

In the old days people usually had smoked lamb and maybe "svid" (lambs head) for Christmas food. They also had the fried cakes.

Most families meet for a Christmas afternoon coffee on the 25th or the 26th December. Then we have a lot of cakes and cookies.

Here is an example of a Christmas dinner we like.
