After the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, three Eastern
wisemen observed the stars in the sky and noticed a very bright one. According to their
calculations, this star meant the birth of a new Jewish king in Palestine.
They
went to Jerusalem and questioned everybody about the birth, but nobody knew about
it.
Finally, they were taken to Herod, the King of Palestine, who showed them the
place where the Jewish King was born.
So, later, they arrived in the stable where
Jesus was lying and offered him gifts: gold, incense and myrrh, then they knelt down in
front of him.
This is what christians celebrate on January 5th.

On that occasion, people have a special kind of cake: a flat disc of light puff pastry stuffed with almond cream. A tiny object is hidden in the cream and the one who gets it becomes the king or Queen of the party and has to wear a card crown until the end of the meal!
Before eating the cake some people play a little game: the youngest child in the family crouches under the table and shouts out the names of the guests one after the other while the pieces of cake are handed out...just to make sure nobody cheats and becomes King because he/she had seen where the "goody" was hidden!
