Easter is the annual festival that commemorates the
resurrection of Christ. The Christian Easter festival originates from the Jewish
festival: in the year 30, Jesus celebrated the Eucharist for the first time for the
Jewish feast.
The date of the actual festival was controversial for many years,
some claimed it was the same as the Jewish, others said it was to take place on the
following Sunday.
The "Nicée Council", in 325, settled it on the first Sunday after
the fisrt moon which follows the spring equinox.
The fourth "Latran Council"
prescribed to the christians to communicate during the period between Easter and
Pentecost.
Easter celebrates the resurrection of Christ, therefore, christians light Paschal tapers on this event.
According to the tradition, people eat a leg of mutton on this day, it is called the Paschal lamb, which represents the sheep Abraham killed instead of his son Isaac.
Easter is also the end of lent, in memory of Jesus fasting
in the desert.
For Easter, nowadays, there is the "eggs tradition":
we hide
chocolate or sugar eggs in the garden and the children must find them...it usually is
fun for the whole family !
