Father's day:

Father's day is the second Sunday in November. On the Sunday morning, children try to wake up very early. Usually they bake a cake but they may have bought it. Then, when they are ready with the cake and they have also made some coffee, they go with a tray to father's bedroom and wake him up. The children give him the father's day card which they have made at school. Father gets the cake for breakfast. Later that day, the family can have some fun together, for example go to the movies together.

Christmas eve: 24-12

In the morning, father and children go and buy a very beautiful christmas tree. When they come home with the tree, mother has made all the food: rossolli, which is made of carrots, onions, beetroots, pickles...etc. Ham is the main food of Christmas. Potato-, carrot-, swede-casserole are mother's proof of skill. In the evening, all the family assembles to celebrate Christmas eve. If the family have got little children, Santa Claus usually comes, the all the fun begins!

Epiphany: 6-01

"On Epiphany, we finish Christmas and carry the tree out. We take all the Christmas decorations off."

New year's eve: 31-12

We youth have great parties. We celebrate the change of year in Senaatintori, which is a very big place in the middle of the town. At 23.45, the mayor of Helsinki speaks. At the end everybody sings together Finland's national song. At00.00, a great fireworks starts.

Young people celebrate the new year in Helsinki:

"We have a very good time. We watch fireworks, spend some time with our friends, and because it's holiday, we drink drink some alcohol...but not very much!

Just after midnight, we cast tin and make some resolutions. Every New Year, we do some "new year magic": for example, we look into the mirror and we hope that we see our future husband or wife, I tried it but I only saw my own face.

I think the best New Year magic is prophecy, it is nice to know what new year will bring with it. I think the best holiday is New Year. I love it!
